 | | We’re Grateful for 45 Years of Community Support to Advance Zero Waste! In 1976, Eco-Cycle was founded by local Boulder visionaries who helped start the recycling revolution, making Boulder one of the first cities in the nation to offer curbside recycling. In the past 45 years, Eco-Cycle has advanced Zero Waste initiatives in Boulder County and beyond! As one of the nation’s oldest and largest nonprofit recyclers, we’ve expanded our work statewide to encourage recycling and composting, promote waste reduction, and advance Colorado’s progress toward Zero Waste. Along the way, we’ve made gains that are conserving resources and habitat, reducing pollution, and creating more climate-resilient communities. As Eco-Cycle celebrates its 45th anniversary, we’re grateful that we are in this together. Side-by-side with our many partners, donors, and our 1,000-plus network of Eco-Leader volunteers, Eco-Cycle has been crafting and implementing Zero Waste solutions in service of a future that better matches our collective values of sustainability, equity, and resilience. We thank the activists, partners, volunteers, and donors who have made our achievements possible, some of which are highlighted below! |
| | | Let’s Keep Going! Will you support Eco-Cycle’s Zero Waste Initiatives in 2022? With your generous support, this year Eco-Cycle prevailed in championing statewide legislation to reduce plastic pollution, completed a first-of-its-kind carbon farming trial on urban lands, provided Zero Waste education to over 50,000 students, and recycled almost 50,000 tons of materials—reducing greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to taking 49,000 cars off the road for a year! Next year, we’ll pursue producer responsibility legislation in Colorado that incentivizes producers to redesign packaging, expand our carbon farming pilot, and implement the nation’s first electric compost truck! |
| Help us advance our Zero Waste initiatives in 2022! Schedule a Colorado Gives Day gift TODAY! And, thanks to a matching grant, all new gifts or increases in giving over last year’s donation WILL BE MATCHED IN FULL! |

| | | State of Recycling and Composting in Colorado Eco-Cycle and CoPIRG released the annual State of Recycling and Composting in Colorado report. In 2020, Colorado’s statewide recycling and composting rate was just 15%—less than half the national recycling and composting rate of 32%. However, some leading Colorado communities are recovering more than 50% of their discarded materials, demonstrating that recycling and composting can be successful solutions for Colorado. Find out who the top-performing cities and counties are, how Colorado’s recycling and composting rate compares to other states, and how producer responsibility legislation can ensure that every Coloradan has convenient access to recycling. |

| | | Do you like to talk about plant-based foods? Participate in a research study! We know that food production contributes significantly to climate change. That’s why Eco-Cycle is working with the City of Boulder and researchers at Colorado State University to study the barriers Boulder County residents face, and which motivations can help us, when trying to have effective conversations about plant-based diets. You can help us by sharing your thoughts on plant-based eating. Click here to take the Survey on Plant-based Eating Your input will inform messaging about food choices and climate change. - The survey takes around 15 minutes to complete, and survey respondents will have the opportunity to receive a $5 gift card as a thank you.
- The survey is focused on Boulder County residents but open to those living outside the county.
Help us better understand the barriers and motivations that shape whether and how you talk about plant-based foods by taking this survey! This survey has been assessed against federal ethical research standards by the Colorado State University Institutional Review Board, under the protocol number #2100. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact Dr. Megan Jones at MS.Jones@colostate.edu or 541 286-8226. If you have any questions about your rights as a participant, please contact the CSU Institutional Review Board at RICRO_IRB@mail.colostate.edu or 970-491-1553. |
