Take local climate action by volunteering with the Urban Forestry campaign!
Join Eco-Cycle, the PLAY Boulder Foundation, and the Cool Boulder Initiative in a Neighborhood Urban Forest Campaign this spring!
Communities must prepare for climatic extremes. The shade and evaporative cooling provided by trees and other plants will be an increasingly critical part of keeping communities safe and livable for humans and our ecological communities (like pollinators).
That’s why the City of Boulder, in collaboration with local partners like Eco-Cycle, has initiated Cool Boulder, a nature-based climate solutions campaign uniting community members to forge a resilient climate future. Last fall, we planted over 85 native trees and shrubs in our community, and we're expanding our efforts!
This spring, we are continuing to build a Neighborhood Urban Forest together, and we need your help!
Here’s how YOU can be part of the solution as a volunteer:
Tree deliveries: May 3 & 4
Trees (size #5) will need to be delivered to their new homes! We are looking for volunteers with pickup trucks or trailers who can deliver within the 3 neighborhoods.
Support tree planting: May 3 & 4
Some of our participants will need help planting their trees. If you feel comfortable and confident moving moderately heavy trees and digging holes in participants' yards, this may be for you! Please note that participants will sign waivers before the visit, and that you will be doing visits alone or paired with another volunteer.
Get the word out: Throughout April
In order to build out our canopy, we need neighbors to sign up to receive a free tree or shrub! If you live in or near one of the participating neighborhoods, you can volunteer to spread the word through networks like Nextdoor or local online groups, and anyone can volunteer to post resources in public spaces.
Adopt a public tree: Details TBD
This opportunity is not yet available, but in the future we hope to be able to engage volunteers to steward trees that we plant in public places. This would involve visiting your assigned/chosen trees and letting us know if they need help or maintenance (and ideally doing small acts of maintenance when possible). We will let you know if/when this becomes available if you express interest below.
